Who is the Tax Kangaroo?
You may not be interested in taxes, but taxes are interested in you.
— Lenin, approximately
The estimable mantle of the Tax Kangaroo rests squarely on the shoulders of dynamic duo Julian Watt and Grant McBundy.
Julian Watt
Speaking from the left side of the aisle is Julian Watt, business journo, known for his keen—his friends might call it obsessive—interest in the wider ramifications of taxation in our daily lives. It’s a subject whose intricacies and twisted alleys he enjoys ferreting with about as much assiduousness as that obscure bottle of ancient vine Barossa Shiraz, that rare bootleg of the Go-Betweens’ 1996 Paris date, or that Tasmanian Blackwood piece for his Georgian home.
Grant McBundy
Coming from the right is Grant McBundy, a straight shooter hailing from the great Australian bush, who was shocked to discover as a teenager that the paycheck from his first job had been mysteriously reduced from an already paltry sum by taxes. Ever since that fateful moment he has devoted himself tirelessly to an investigation of all things taxes, ultimately making his way here to the Tax Rascal. Grant’s liberal counterpoint will cover all things taxes, business, and politics.
The goal of the Australian Taxation News blog is to balance levy with levity, sharp attention to the details of all things tax with an instinct for the interesting effects subtle changes in tax rules or policy priorities can have on the way we work and live. Just as a kangaroo would!
